GADES Y FUEGO AT THE PORTA FERRADA OCCIDENT FESTIVAL 2026
Porta Ferrada Occident presents Fuego, the choreographic testament of the legendary duo formed by Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura. This piece, which commemorates the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla, is not just a ballet; it is a statement of principles. The work emerges as a transitional piece between Carmen and Fuenteovejuna, and as the final great collaboration between these two giants of the stage.
Created in 1989 during a moment of profound personal transformation, Gades poured an introspective state of mind into Fuego. Far from the romantic fantasy of El amor brujo, the choreographer immerses us in a storyline tinged with madness, dreams and shadows, where Saura’s visual strength and Dominique You’s lighting create a hypnotic atmosphere.
The performance is a display of unparalleled talent: over the original soundtrack performed by Rocío Jurado, Gades interwove flamenco fragments and popular music that pulse with a timeless energy. Today, the Antonio Gades Company, under the direction of Stella Arauzo—original lead performer at the premiere alongside the master—keeps alive the essence of a work that brings together eras, traditions and the eternal passion for the language of dance.
