jordi savall IN CONCERT AT THE PORTA FERRADA OCCIDENT FESTIVAL 2026
Dedicated to early music, Jordi Savall—viol player and conductor—arrives at Porta Ferrada Occident Festival with The Silk Road, a fascinating musical journey through ancient cultures and traditions.
Accompanied by Hespèrion XXI, the ensemble he founded, he presents a selection of songs and dances from the Middle East and Central Asia—from Mesopotamia to Persia, Turkey and Armenia—as well as Tatar music. A rich sonic universe unfolds through instruments such as the ney, one of the oldest still in use, and the duduk, whose sound recalls that of the oboe.
Inspired by the travels of Marco Polo, and marking the 700th anniversary of his death, the concert pays tribute to him and transports us along the Silk Road, a great route of cultural, social and artistic exchange between East and West. A journey that evokes not only landscapes and peoples, but also the spirit of discovery and dialogue between cultures.
An undisputed reference in the recovery and dissemination of early music, Savall has amassed more than 230 recordings and has been recognized with awards such as the Grammy Award and, more recently, the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, one of the most prestigious in the world of music. Jordi Savall is also the founder of ensembles such as La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Le Concert des Nations and the record label Alia Vox.
